Hi! I will review this article. Yay! Basilisk4u (talk) 17:03, 10 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Review

[edit]
Lead
  • "Production encountered hindrances such as singer Eddie Vedder's writer's block, and guitarist Mike McCready entrance into rehabilitation due to an addiction to prescription drugs." --> "During the production of the album, the band encountered hindrances such as singer Eddie Vedder's writer's block and guitarist Mike McCready entrance into rehabilitation due to an addiction to prescription drugs."
  • "Binaural received positive reviews, and debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200." Spell out "two"
  • "The album became the first Pearl Jam studio album to fail to reach platinum status in the United States, although certified gold by the RIAA." --> "Although the record was certified gold by the RIAA, it became the first Pearl Jam studio album to fail to reach platinum status in the United States."
  • Perhaps add something about the title and album artwork in the lead.
Recording
  • "For its sixth album, Pearl Jam brought in producer Tchad Blake, known for his use of binaural recording. Binaural recording techniques were utilized on several tracks, such as the acoustic "Of the Girl." The songs are also identified with an asterisk next to the song names in the lyric book." Put these sentences into the part where you talk about how they stopped working with Brendan O'Brien. Also, explain the process of binaural recording.
  • "During the making of the album the band ran into several problems." --> "During the writing and recording of the album, the band encountered several obstacles."
  • "This apparently inspired the hidden track "Writer's Block"..." Why apparently? Is there some dispute about this?
  • "Gossard said that 'because Mike wasn't all there, and there was a 'get-to-know-you' thing with Matt, everyone wasn't on the same page.'" Which Matt is this? Add some background here. Also, the word "said" could be better, try "recalled".
Music and lyrics
  • "The song 'Nothing as It Seems' has been compared to the style of Pink Floyd.[2]" Add this sentence to the end of the paragraph, as this sentence seems to interrupt discussion of The Who.
  • "Ament stated that 'Gods' Dice' is about 'judging anybody who has any sort of belief system whether they believe in God or not.'[2] Vedder called 'Evacuation' a 'song about change.'[5] Ament said he wrote "Nothing as It Seems" about his childhood growing up in a rural area of Northern Montana.[17]" I think the two sentences about Ament could be combined as "Ament stated that "Gods' Dice" is about "judging anybody who has any sort of belief system whether they believe in God or not", while "Nothing as It Seems" details his childhood growing up in a rural area of Northern Montana.[2] Vedder called "Evacuation" a "song about change."[5]
Release and reception
  • I think it would be good to take the first and last paragraphs and put them into a "Commercial reception" section, and have the rest be "Critical reception"
  • "In the review, Binaural is called 'a seething, furious album; a declamatory statement against cynicism and passivity and the simple injustices of everyday life.' It’s also said that 'even when the band slow the pace, the songs are coloured by a heartfelt intensity.'" --> "In the review, Binaural is called 'a seething, furious album; a declamatory statement against cynicism and passivity and the simple injustices of everyday life' and that 'even when the band slow the pace, the songs are coloured by a heartfelt intensity.'"
  • "Time reviewer Christopher John Farley said that the album..." --> "Time reviewer Christopher John Farley noted that the album..."
  • This section uses the word "said" a lot, try to use some variety with the word choice
  • "In the review it’s stated that Pearl Jam..." --> "The review referred to Pearl Jam as..."
Packaging
  • Looks good :)
Tour
  • "Pearl Jam's 2000 European tour ended in tragedy on June 30, 2000, with an accident at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark. Nine fans were crushed underfoot and suffocated to death as the crowd rushed to the front." --> "Pearl Jam's 2000 European tour ended in tragedy on June 30, 2000, with an accident at the Roskilde Festival in Denmark where nine fans were crushed underfoot and suffocated to death as the crowd rushed to the front."
  • "Pearl Jam was initially blamed for the accident, but the band was later cleared of responsibility." Does this mean legally or just the public opinion of the blame?
Outtakes
  • I think it would make more sense to put this section right after the "Music and lyrics" section.
References
  • The only problem is that many references lack publisher information.

On hold

[edit]

I am placing the review on hold now. I think this is a well-done article that is close to being a good article. Good luck! Basilisk4u (talk) 19:32, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done the text, expanded the refs a bit, does it need more work? igordebraga 18:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article is looking great. My only request before passing the article is that publishers be added for references 9, 15, 18, 19, and 49. Also make sure that all references to MTV.com be changed to MTV News and the publisher Viacom is added to them. Basilisk4u (talk) 01:05, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done. igordebraga 02:52, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Passed the article. Congrats! Basilisk4u (talk) 04:27, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

change licence of cover art

[edit]

I uploaded the cover with a new licence here, because the original image is in the public domain. What do you think? May I change the cover in the article? --Boenki (talk) 19:02, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
